BROTHERHOOD
BY ASHMOND KWESY
As featured in Ekóma's Parallel Frequencies Exhibition, Ashmond's series 'BROTHERHOOD: A Visual Symphony of Skate and Spirit’ is more than just a photo project; it’s a visceral, visual narrative that captures the unspoken connection between two skaters whose bond transcends the streets they ride. Set against an urban backdrop, this series explores the unfiltered freedom that skaters find in their craft, which is deeply tied to their shared experiences and personal expression.
His signature use of bold colours, especially the use of red that recurs in his work invites us into this world of synchronicity, where the culture of skating reflects a spirit of community. In this, BROTHERHOOD is a celebration of cultural conveyance that thrives in these relationships.
